Ch. 5 Her Questions

Life could have never been so strange and problematic. He had only questioned once on each incident. First, when Mrs. Eve, or Auntie Eve, he'd  like to call her, had never come again after the New Year's Eve when he was six. She was found in a Pine Forest near the cliff that led to Old Pier Beach. Her body could not be identified because she was burnt to death.
http://dreams-upon-pillow.blogspot.com
The rescuer team found her necklace along with another body, assumed to be a man, also hardly able to be identified. Luckily, Rosaline, her daughter and then became his "sister", survived the accident.
http://dreams-upon-pillow.blogspot.com
She was found near the bushes.
http://dreams-pillow-blogspot.com,http://dreams-upon-pillow.blogspot.com
Second incident was a blast which happened in the basement of their house,  destroying all of his father's new experiments and inventions, and worse it also destroyed their house.

http://dreams-pillow-blogspot.com,http://dreams-upon-pillow.blogspot.com

After the explosion -- which caused radiation effects-- his family migrated to France where his mother, Helen, spent most of her childhood. He asked his mother about the reason of their sudden moving and "accident in your father's lab" was what she told him. He thought that they would come back again a few years later, but they did not.

He wanted to come back. He had quite miserable first times in France involving the language, the food, the new school. It took quite long for him to finally be able to adapt with the new country. He missed his home town so much and all of his friends there: Mortimer Goth, Malcolm Landgraab, and most of all Miraj Alvi, his best friend.

http://dreams-upon-pillow.blogspot.com
Miraj was a friend whom he could count of in any time of troubles or joyous. After his moving to France, they exchanged letters for a while, but ever since they both attended high schools, they lost contact. Still, Miraj remained as a best friend in his heart.

Then, after six years of having a content life in France, the most devastating part happened: the death of his parents.

http://dreams-upon-pillow.blogspot.com
Their bodies were found on an island, few days after their boat got crashed to a coral stone.
http://dreams-pillow.blogspot.com
He was only fourteen and she was twelve. They managed to live with only his father's savings.
http://dreams-upon-pillow.blogspot.com
His father, Alexander, was a Scientist who had earned royalty after he had found a new crossbreeding plant that could cure cancer and slow down the aging process. He named it "the Fruit of Life" which had also proven able to heal faster than a special bacteria found earlier. After the lab explosion, the royalty started to flow irregularly to his account and finally stopped after he died. It was quite strange because Valentin as his heir should have received the royalty afterward.

His father's saving was the only source of money for them. Until finally, there was nothing left in the account and they could not able to pay the bills or even  their school books, and often had nothing to eat.  Luckily, the nature was still being friendly to them. They ate fish or frogs he caught in a lake, and vegetables and fruits she grew in her backyard, but still they could not afford to pay their tuition fees. To earn money, he sold fish --anything he could find in the wild-- along with some of the vegetables and fruits she had harvested.

http://dreams-pillow.blogspot.com
Even in those rough times, they had fun doing those and so the burden slip away. He loved to fish -- ever since his father took him to a lake in Sunset Valley. She loved gardening -- so much that he often caught her talking to her plants when she was alone. He couldn't help, but laughed and teased her whenever she did that.
http://dreams-upon-pillow.blogspot.com
Until one afternon, he found her telling an apple tree how much she wanted to see him happy. Birds were singing in his heart. Rosaline is such a sweet girl.
http://dreams-upon-pillow.blogspot.com
http://dreams-upon-pillow.blogspot.com
Together they walked through those difficult times. He realized how much she had supported him. Even though selling veggies was the only thing she could do, it meant a lot to him and had made many differences. He wanted to be strong for her as his parents would hope him to be, simply by being there for her whenever she expressed her worries and fears -- although the truth was, he was also afraid that they would not be able to get through those hard times together.

But eventually they made it, even at a time when it seemed that there was no way out. For them, it's a miracle.

Some of their neighbors said that they were lucky, because they won scholarships for less fortunate children and had part-time jobs in  stores, hotel, or as babysitters.

Lucky or not,  the most important thing was that he knew  he wasn't alone. There was someone who stood  beside him. Someone who often encouraged him and kept him from getting out of the line,
http://dreams-pillow.blogspot.com
because, you see... he almost slipped into things that he shouldn't have done. She  helped him get out of those circumstances and so every day he wanted to be a better person for her...  and for himself. She encouraged him in so many ways. She's the heart of his life, the center of his thoughts.

Photobucket
She helped him believe the good things in life and so together they managed to get through those difficult times together.
http://dreams-upon-pillow.blogspot.com
But after all of those hard works and triumphs, and  when he felt capable enough to do everything he could to improve their lives, his hands were in cuffs for something he didn't do.

http://dreams-pillow.blogspot.com
He was imprison.

Now, with his criminal record lurking in the shadow, his dream to become a police officer  ended. He realized everything could become worse.

A woman was behind the false accusation.  Whenever her name came across his mind, his palm  clenched very hard–- holding back all of his vexations inside. She should have been called 'Poison Ivy' instead. Her name was too beautiful for a woman who was cunning as a fox.

Mrs. Ivy accused him for breaking in into her villa in an attempt to steal her expensive jewelries when in fact he was trying to save Rosaline from her kidnapping. It was, nonetheless, a twist of fact she made.
htpp://dreams-upon-pillow.blogspot.com

htpp://dreams-upon-pillow.blogspot.com
http://dreams-pillow.blogspot.com
Mrs. Ivy denied it.
http://dreams-pillow.blogspot.com
With Pierre as their witness, they tried to defend themselves, but all the evidence proved the otherwise. Until now, Mrs. Ivy's reasons to kidnap Rosaline were shielded like a rotten mystery. Even Rosaline was still keeping her mouth shut and left him wondering  about it. Still,  it only took a day for the matter to get lost in a shuffle, right after he received a phone call from the bank. Aunt Amélie, their supposed to be  trustee, ran with his parent's money to travel and stay abroad in Italy. His heart raged with fire. He couldn't be hearty enough to give his condolences for her. Aunt Amélie had died in Italy and that's why the bank called him: to inform him that she had a debt amounted to fifty thousand Simoleons with their house as the guarantee. If they refused to pay the debt, the bank would seize their house within two months.

Bang! He slammed his body into his chair and then  pressed his temple with his thumb. With a fist on the table, he cursed her name. He should have thought about that -- that Aunt Amélie would steal their  father's money to splurge and have fun with it.

Rosaline's reaction was in the contrary. Her eyes filled with tears after hearing the news. She encouraged him to pray for Aunt Amelie although it was obvious that he wasn't interested in doing any of that stuff for her. He realized he should not have been that vengeful, but the anger was eating him alive. To him, aunt Amélie had shown her lack of responsibilities as their guardian, and she had put them into a deep pit. He could not be sincere enough for her. His mouth was itching to tell Rosaline about what Aunt Amelie really did, but he only kept his mouth shut because he did not want to make her feel worried. He knew Rosaline would have forgiven her, even if she had known about it.  Rosaline has a pure heart which he admired from the deep heart, but someone could easily take advantage of her kindness, and it often made him worry.

One thing for sure, rather than busy cursing his aunt, he should found a way to earn the money: fifty thousand simoleons in two months! The floor was spinning around him.  He tapped a pencil on his desk. He knew he was wasting time. He needed to act quickly.

Perhaps his boss would lend him some dough? He just had to figure out of how to pay it later. He should find a better job, the one that would let him earn lots of cash at a double of speed. However, with his criminal record on the shadow,  what kind of  business would let him in?

Valentin exhaled and watched the clock ticking on the wall. He knew he must find a clever way.  He refused the idea of Rosaline lose her opportunity to study in college.  She has a dream to become a doctor. He wanted her to go to a good university. He didn't want her to feel stuck as he was – being left behind while his friends were all in college. It sucks. He had his dreams and so did she. Even if he could not reach his, at least one of them should.

Letting out a harsh sigh, Valentin turned away from the clock. It was nine in the evening and his arms were shivering. The wind was blowing hard from the open window. He got up from his seat and closed it.
dreams_pillow
Rosaline had taken the curtains away because she wanted to wash them. Still,  he didn't mind the view.
http://dreams-upon-pillow.blogspot.com
dreams_pillow
The night was beautiful, even though the stars shone dimly. If only life was simple... . Yet perhaps even in the darkness a little light would glow upon them?
dreams_pillow
Closing his eyes,  he was taking a deep breath. "Don't worry, dad, mom. Rose and I...  we'll be alright."

It's silly, he knew it. His mind often got trapped in a nine years old brain to believe that his parents were up there, watching them struggling  throughout their lives.
Photobucket
But still, he believed in it. All he had was faith and hope that everything would be okay.
http://dreams-upon-pillow.blogspot.com
Still, he wished he would have been stronger for her.

As he walked down the narrow hall to reach the kitchen downstairs for a glass of water, he heard noises in her room. It's her. She sounded restless and was delirious.  After a few seconds, she screamed.

He opened the door and found her lying on the bed.  Her eyes closed tight, but her hands reached out for something upon her. "Rose...?" He held her hands. Her body was shivering but her cheek was fully red. "Mom, d-don't ... go!" She clutched his hands tightly.

He placed his palm on her forehead and felt the heat pricking his skin. Racing down to the kitchen to grab a wet towel, he quickly went back into her room.

"Rose. "

He placed the wet towel on her forehead  and then covered her with a blanket up to her neck. Touching her feet, he then dived into the drawer and then wrapped her feet with his socks. He realized they had run out of medicine, and the drugstore was miles away on the city. He should have gone to the store to buy paracetamol, but he  knew he could not leave her alone like this.

He squeezed her hand and -- as he sat on the edge of his seat-- he whispered a  prayer in a low voice --  hoping that her fever would come down soon. He soaked the wet towel again, wrung it slightly and then placed it on her forehead.  The night went on and the dawn was breaking in into the night. The cold wind harshly blew outside that he could hear oak trees rustling and the loose shutter was flapping outside the window.  He got up and made sure the window was closed tight.

Placing his palm on her forehead, he felt her temperature began to cool down.  She was starting to sweat and her mouth had not spoken another rambling. Now, she was sleeping quietly. His right hand held her hand, squeezing it slowly. Reaching for her face, she carefully stroke her hair.
Photobucket
If only they have enough money and supplies of medicines, things would have been easier. He wondered what could have happened if she had  a more serious ill? He squeezed her hand  and promised that everything would be better for them.

Luckily, her fever  had come down. She was okay and it would not be long until the morning came. As he breathed an air of relieve, his fingers caressed her cheek. The corners of his mouth risen. It's a rare opportunity to touch her like this -- to love her like a man to a woman.

Her skin felt soft  against his. Yet, strong enough to electrify him with thousands of volts.  He knew he couldn't live without her. To him, she's an amazing girl --  the most important person in his life, the one he would live and die for. He only wished he would be able to protect her throughout his life.

"Rose."
dreams_pillow

"I love you."

He loved her.

He loved her more than as a brother.

***

The night ended and he hardly remembered of  what happened next as he woke up by the sounds of pigeons chirping around the windowsill. He knew he must have fallen into sleep. His neck was stiff as if it was made from teak wood. Still, he cared less about his pain as he saw Rose had already woken up with her big soft glowing eyes staring at him.

"You're awake?" He said with a hoarse voice, and his eyes was still half shut. The image of her  was  still surrounded in a blurry white shadow. He straightened up in his seat, trying to observe everything clearly including the fact that his hands were still holding hers.

He quickly let them go. Apparently, her hands had become his pillow throughout the dawn and she must have suffered a numb because of it. Yet, she only smiled as she opened her mouth. "You waited up for me all night?"

His face turned red, unable to meet her gaze. Glancing down to the white duvet covering her feet, he hoped that she had not noticed his embarassment. From the corner of his eyes, he knew she was still smiling at him.

"You- you were having a fever, Rose. Are you okay now?"

He glanced at her,  but instantly got enchanted.  She's an angel. Her smile was beautiful as it glowed underneath the sunlight breaking in through the window. Her face was slightly pale from the remaining fever, but  the glow inside her was still captivating him. She made him breathless. She's beautiful and became more beautiful each day.

"I'm feeling better now, Val. Thanks."

Butterflies formed in his stomach. Again, he turned away  from her to the painting  lined on the wall as though he'd just seen it for the first time. He knew he was acting silly. Of course, he had seen it for hundreds of times. It was, nonetheless, a bicycle painting made by his mother. His mother would have been worried if she had seen  Rose being sick like that.

It's okay, mom.  She's feeling alright and is even pulling the duvet off her  body.

"Wait!" His hands reached her  before she could  fling her feet onto the floor.  One palm on her forehead, the other was on his own. "Okay, I think your fever has really gone now."  He smiled, but as he lowered his hands, her glittering eyes gazed back at him and for one moment there, their eyes met.

He wanted  nothing but to kiss her.

Of course, he couldn't do that. She would freak out in an instant. In her mind, he was her brother.
http://dreams-upon-pillow.blogspot.com
He wished she had known the truth -- all about the truth.  She hadn't realized of how painful it was for him to love her like that -- not being able to touch her and hug her more than as a brother especially when she was constantly hugged him and loved him as though he was her brother.

Tightening his lips, he reminded himself to feel lucky just to have her beside him. His days could not have been happier, but still,  he wanted a chance to  hold her, kiss her,  and to say how much he really loved her.

He shook his head in despair. It seemed impossible. She only loved her as a brother. Nothing more.

Maybe it's better than nothing at all.

"I'm going to make you a breakfast." He got up from his seat and reached for the door. However, a weak grip stopped him from going onward.  "Wait!"

 He turned around to her.

"What is it, Rose?"

"Would... would you promise  to tell me the truth?"

" What truth?"

There was silence until she broke it off by saying:  "Who- Who am I?"

She finally asked him the question. Did she find out about the truth... that she wasn't his sister? But...  how did she know?
dreams_pillowGathering all his thoughts to answer her, he tried not to spill the beans when it was unnecessary. He waited for her to answer the question herself. However, that wasn't a clever move either because they only ended up in a mutual silence.

Wonderful recap after a long siesta on this story -- I admit I skimmed through portions I was pretty well versed on, but it was nice to get back up to speed when it's been so long since we've gotten to read about Valentin and Rosaline.

I can't wait to see how this is resolved... It's a question that's been hanging over our heads for a while: How *is* he going to tell Rosaline the truth... Or is he even going to?!

I am going to be on the edge of my seat until this is resolved -- and we really know Rosaline's reaction.

Great setup on the a lot of the screenshots, as well. You do such a fantastic job, with those... I wish I could photocopy those braincells of yours and stick 'em in mah brain. ^^ They're always so beautiful and emotive.

OMG M.J., this gave me chills. You did such a great job of reminding us of things we may have forgotten. If there is anyone reading this for the first time, they won't feel lost.
I agree with everything Kaleeko said.
I too am on the edge of my seat wondering what is going to happen next.

That was great the way you put Sam, AJ and Brody into this. That scene is just so perfect, as is the disaster scene.
The pictures just match perfect with the story.

Wow, it's been so long since we've seen Rose and Val. Nice to see them back.

That was a good cap on what's been happening to remind us of the story. How they got to where they are.

LOL - Damn, I thought that was Indy in that scene. Nice use of our Sims in the crime scene investigation.

Poor Val, discovering that his father's saving have vanished and they owe a lot of money. How can they manage to find that much?

And will he finally find the courage to tell his Rose that she was adopted by his parents?

You do create lovely screenshots.

Wonderful idea doing a recap! What a mystery! What happened to the patent money?

Poor Rose just wants the truth. Can he do it? Will he do it? Is it the right thing to do considering everything going on.

I'm really looking forward to the next installment. Yay for updates!

Thanks Everyone. I hope you caught the mystery. They have to discover more than they have already known. I had to recap their story, and this was from Valentin's point of view alone.

You may see them again (Sam, AJ, Brody) because they are part of the storyline. Did you notice how I introduced them as The Chief, Dr. AJ, and Lieutenant Brody? They are staying in Sunset Valley. Valentin and Rosaline will not be forever in France ;)

I typed the first comment in the office, so, I haven't replied your comments on each one. Pardon me :)

@ Kaleeko, Photocopy mine? :D You wouldn't want to. There are so much inside it that scattered around. I love to read your blog and then open a dictionary. Good thing that I have a dictionary software so I don't have to open a book :D I guess that writing is not on my top list of quality, so I'm glad that the picture could show the emotion of the characters.

@ Dee, Thanks..you may don't want to see how I've arranged for the explosion. I was getting carried away and laughing in my room. Everyone who walked pass by would be confused hearing me. When the sim who did the explosion thrilled, so was I. I arranged lots of stoves and cars, in each floor. I had completely messed up their house and it would take them so hard to clean it. All the furnitures were gone. It was too bad. But I have saved their family photographs, of course. Poor Val and Rose, they would certainly have bad moodlet when they arrived home. I was going insane! :D

@PiB, There are so much things that will happen for these two. Things were going pretty smooth before, but after this I will torture them and let's see how they will handle it.
Yes, Sam looks so much like Indy, or the otherwise. By the way, I played Indy in another saved games. It was the bachelor challenge, but I am not going to post it because I don't have a skill to make it more interesting as you all did. He won the bachelor challenge. I guess my sim fell for his athletics skill.

@Chrysame, Thanks! Val had hold it inside for a long time. Sometimes when things had been kept so long, we tend to be carried away. It's weird that they have the option to "Confess" to each other??? Have anyone had it? I mean, I've seen the "confess for cheating" option, but not confess??? That option stuck with them all the time.

Di Al Martini said...

@Chrysame, the question of "what happened to the patent money?" will be answered later in the storyline.

Hi M.J.

I came here through a Link at Jennifer's blog, I will jump in the pool and read from this point, can I say absolutely stunning shots and drama here!
I am captivated!

Welcome Drew! Thank you for reading this. The start of this post is a summary from previous chapters, so you won't be getting behind if you started from here, This is a summary after a long break due to writing another story in the same blog, the firefighter one.

Oh boy do I feel lucky that I don't have to wait for the next chapter! lol

Wonderful writing MJ. I could feel the emotion in this one. Now that everything has been explained I am really looking forward to when they finally get together. Or will they?

I have now doubt that that chapter will be a wonderful one. ;)

Di Al Martini said...

:D Thank you so much. Your comment really brighten my day.. I guess you could see how I started this blog with .. fewer words.. and reading lots from yours and everyone really helped me in improving my writing a lot.

I could not assure you that they will be together. Valentin loves her, that's for sure, but Rosaline has so much in her mind that would make them apart or closer.. and there will be something in Rosaline's past that I haven't revealed yet. It's quite devastating actually. Oh, I should not tell more!
