Ch 13: Into The Dark Part 2

The gunfire pulled her awareness back, prodding every erythrocytes inside her blood to swivel around along her veins as they marched to her heart in such a hideous speed. Her feet and the tips of her fingers shuddered, hung limply in the air while two grips were embracing her tight - pushing her onto a man's chest. She knew that those grips belongs to a man because of the warmth and the familiar musk mingled with his sweat as she sniffed it on his shirt, his rapid heartbeats, and his broad shoulder as her head clung to it. She remembered every single details- of how his shoulders were once tear-stained after she fell down from her bike when she was six. Listening to his breaths, she could even tell who the man really was.

"You'll be fine, Rose." His voice was hoarse while another gasps of his breaths were spasmodically being let out upon her hair. They were cold, but not as cold as his grips were -so cold that they made her shiver. Dad?

Her heart rose and fell in a second when a jump shook her and made her awareness fully awake. Alex was lowering her down onto a rough surface that was wobbling whilst she listened to the rhythm of wave came rushing forward at her. In a minute, her back bumped against the wooden surface and soon followed by her head pointed upward to the sky as it leaned heavily on solid edges.

Opening her eyes, everything was surrounded in a blurry haze. The stars glistened, showing off their well-built constellations that had been used by men to predict things- though she had never really believed in such things about human prophecies. In fact, she had never believed anything about myths. Her mind only wondered if it was already near her end as the heaven felt so close for her to reach.

Dropping her head to observe the surrounding, her mouth fell agape. She was curling up on a boat... a lifeboat that was wobbling away by the waves coming at her as though they were going to eat her alive. Only a few inches down then she would be in inside the water. Alex was nowhere in sight and she was feeling too weak to turn her head to find him.

The small boat wobbled again by a weight pushing it down into the water which indicated that someone was making a leap out of it. She neglected it. She shut her eyes for feeling too tired to stay awake or even to analyze her surroundings.

A touch on his left arm opened her eyes. She knew Alex was still there. It was quick and soon the boat was being pushed away from its main ship.

Ch. 13 - Into the Dark Part 1

***

The young doctor hightailed it up to the ICU, leaving Pierre flustered and vulnerable behind the closed door.

“What is her blood pressure?” He asked without turning his head to the nurse at his left.

“Systolic is 70, diastolic is 50, doctor.”

“This is not good.” He said, preparing for a shock. “Wake up, girl!”

The doctor’s voice muffled into the corners of the ICU room, and all the girl could hear was her own heart beat faded while everything around her was dreary dark.

Ch. 5 Her Questions

Life could have never been so strange and problematic. He had only questioned once on each incident. First, when Mrs. Eve, or Auntie Eve, he'd  like to call her, had never come again after the New Year's Eve when he was six. She was found in a Pine Forest near the cliff that led to Old Pier Beach. Her body could not be identified because she was burnt to death.

The rescuer team found her necklace along with another body, assumed to be a man, also hardly able to be identified. Luckily, Rosaline, her daughter and then became his "sister", survived the accident.

She was found near the bushes.

Second incident was a blast which happened in the basement of their house,  destroying all of his father's new experiments and inventions, and worse it also destroyed their house.

It was a beautiful day on the weekend. Dad, Mom, Rose and I were having a picnic near the waterfall. Mom cooked us some hot dogs. I still remember how delicious her cooking was. Rose was six while I was going eight. Dad rushed to take us to a lake. He said that it would have been better if we have gone before 6 am because the air was still fresh.

Dad and I took our chance at some bait. My Dad worked as a Scientist. He taught me about nature and science, and how we as human must appreciate nature. My Dad wanted me to become a scientist just like him. I didn't know if I could be like him, but I promised to my dad that I would study harder. I'm really proud of him. I miss him and I miss my mom too.

She and Rose were so much closer than she was with me. They liked to gossip and shared about things that my dad and I didn't know, probably about woman matters.

My dad and I often talked about guy's things too.

He  taught me to learn everything about nature. "Play and learn" that was he taught me about. He and  I loved to collect unique fruits, leaves and then my dad would examine them for me.

Rose loved to  fish - as well as I was, but I never expected that she was smarter. She had caught a big fish while I had only caught a small minnow.

"Don't underestimate on small catches! Little ones are a part of an important thing." My dad said to me. "Rosaline, do you want to stay with us  until seven tonight?"
My dad had prepared a camp near the lake. We planned to catch fish until seven and would have a grilled fish for dinner.

"Dad!!" My patience finally brought a result.  I caught a big fish and made my dad feel so proud of me.

It wasn't the only memory I have about them, but I  still remember it clearly. Rose still remembers about it too

Year 2006:
I can't believe that they both have gone. It seems they are still here, at least in our hearts.
